Pueblo dust is why your laptop sounds like a leaf blower

I can often hear it before I open it. The fan is screaming and the bottom of the laptop is a hot plate. Open the bottom cover and there’s a felt of Pueblo dust on the intake.

I’m Adam, 2727 N Elizabeth St. This is not a rare job here. Wind, dirt, a house with pets, a laptop that lives on a couch cushion — it all packs the same vents.

What that dust actually does

The fan still spins. Air doesn’t move. The machine throttles, apps freeze, it shuts off in the middle of homework. Leave it like that long enough and you’re shopping for a board, not a cleaning.

I don’t need a software scan to see this. I need a screwdriver.

What we do

Clean the path the air is supposed to take. Check the fan. New thermal paste when the job calls for it. If a screen, keyboard, or battery is also shot, that’s the normal laptop price: $179.99 plus parts, used parts in the shop included.

If cleaning is all it needs, I’ll say that. I won’t upsell you a “tune-up package.”

What you can do at home

Don’t vacuum the vents with the hose on full blast. You can stall a cheap fan. Compressed air, short bursts, vents open, fan held still if you can see it. Better: take the bottom off only if you’ve done it before. Otherwise bring it in.

Don’t block the vents. A pillow is a lid.
