Signs the charging port is failing
- The charger wiggles in the port, or the light goes on and off when you move it.
- The battery drains even while it’s plugged in.
- “Plugged in, not charging” in Windows.
- The round power jack is pushed in or loose inside the case.
- The USB-C port only charges from one side, or not at all.
Check the charger first
A bad charger causes a lot of the same symptoms. Look for a frayed cord, especially near the plug end, and check that the brick’s light comes on. If you have another charger that fits, try it. If the laptop charges with the other charger, you just need a new charger, not a repair.
What we do
We test the charger, the port, and the battery to find which one is actually failing. Then we tell you the price before we start. On many laptops the round DC jack is on a short cable and can be swapped. On others, the jack or USB-C port is soldered to the motherboard and needs board-level work. Either way, we tell you which yours is.
If a used part we already have in the shop does the job, it’s included. Same-day is common when the part is in stock. If it isn’t, we order it and tell you first.
Don’t wait too long
A loose charging port can arc and heat up as it gets worse, and that can damage the board around it. A port repair now is cheaper than motherboard repair later.
