What we do

We take the console apart, clean the dust out of the fan and heatsink, and replace the dried-out thermal compound between the processor and the heatsink. Then we reassemble it and test it. If we find a failing fan or something else wrong, we tell you what it is and what it costs before doing anything more.

Thermal compound dries out over the years. When it does, heat doesn’t move off the chip well, and the fan has to run harder. A cleaning by itself helps, but replacing the compound is what brings the temperatures back down.

Why it matters
