I’m Adam, Pueblo Computer Help, 2727 N Elizabeth St. Almost every tech support, Amazon, or bank scam involving a computer has one thing in common: at some point the scammer got you to install a remote-access program. Those are real programs, like AnyDesk, TeamViewer, ConnectWise ScreenConnect, UltraViewer, LogMeIn, and Splashtop, that legitimate shops also use. The problem is who’s on the other end. Once installed, some of them can stay running in the background and let the scammer back in later, even after you hang up.
Signs a scammer may still have access
- The mouse moves or windows open by themselves.
- The screen goes black or shows a “please wait, updating” message you didn’t start.
- You see a remote-access icon near the clock or a new program in the Start menu you don’t recognize.
- The scammer calls back and knows what’s on your screen.
- New user accounts appear on the computer, or your password suddenly changed.
- Your email shows logins or sent messages you didn’t do.
- Security software has been turned off or uninstalled.
No signs doesn’t always mean you’re clear. Some tools sit quietly as a service until someone connects. That’s why we check the whole machine instead of just looking for an icon.
What to do right now
- Disconnect from the internet: unplug the network cable or turn off Wi-Fi. Without internet, nobody can connect remotely.
- Leave it off the internet until it’s been checked. Shutting it down is fine.
- Don’t log into your bank or email on that computer. Use a phone or another computer they never touched.
- If money or banking info was involved, call your bank at the number on the back of your card.
- Bring the computer in, and bring other devices that use the same email or bank logins.
How we remove it
- We save your documents and photos first.
- We look through installed programs, background services, startup items, and scheduled tasks for remote-access tools and remove the ones you didn’t intend to keep.
- We check for admin accounts the scammer added and remove them.
- We check browsers for extensions, changed home pages, and saved passwords the scammer could have seen.
- We scan for other malware and turn your security protection back on.
- We check your phone and tablet for screen-sharing or remote-control apps too.
- If the computer is too compromised to trust, we tell you, and a clean Windows reinstall with your files put back may be the better fix. We say so before we start.
- Then we help re-secure your email and walk you through your bank logins from a clean machine.
If you want to learn more about how a legitimate remote session should work, our remote support page explains it: you call us, we stay on the phone, and you close the program when we’re done. Nobody legitimate cold-calls you to get on your computer.
What it costs
$179.99 to $299, depending on how severe it is. A cleanup of a single device starts at $179.99. It goes up toward $299 when there are several devices, a deeper compromise, or email and bank logins to re-secure along with the cleanup. We look first and quote before we start, so you know the price before any work is done. All of our work is warrantied and guaranteed.
The shop is at 2727 N Elizabeth St, Pueblo, CO 81003. Bringing your devices in is the usual way to do this. On-site repairs are typically $299, so it’s usually cheaper to bring them in. Remote support is $99 per hour, but after a scam we usually want the computer on our bench so we can check it properly.
How common is this?

We can’t recover money that was taken, and refunds are up to your bank. All of our work is warrantied and guaranteed.
Questions people ask
How do I know if the scammer can still get into my computer?
Signs include the mouse moving on its own, a black screen you didn’t start, new remote-access icons or programs, or new user accounts. Some tools stay quiet until someone connects, so the safest move is to disconnect from the internet and have it checked.
Can I just uninstall AnyDesk or TeamViewer myself?
You can, and it helps, but scammers sometimes install more than one tool, add an admin account, or set things to reinstall at startup. We check all of that, not just the program list.
Is it safe to use the computer for banking after you clean it?
Once we’ve removed the remote access and malware and checked the accounts, yes. If a machine is too compromised to trust, we’ll tell you and recommend a clean reinstall.
How much does removal cost?
$179.99 to $299, depending on how severe it is. One computer starts at $179.99. We quote before we start.
Do you use remote-access tools too?
Yes, for remote support when you call us first. We never cold-call anyone to get on their computer.
